There are multiple night trains that leave for St.Petersburg from Moscow. But on of the most classic and historic trains would be on the The Red Arrow (Krasnaya Strela). Remember to check the timetable of the the Red Arrow train, as there is only one train that departs every night at 11.55pm.
There are many festivities in St Petersburg (previously Leningrad) as it is the cultural center of Russia, so do check the St Petersburg evhttp://events.stpete.orgent calendar
as you may be greeted with a sunny surprise!
Once, we arrive in St Petersburg on the Great Patriotic Day, it is celebrated every 9th May in remembrance of the heroes who have fought the World War 2 for 4 long years against the Nazi, when around 20 million Soviet soldier perished. The world would not be as it is if not for the Russians, and personally I think they they deserve more respect for their sacrifice! The war has impacted them so much that anyone you speak to would have a family member who has fought this war to protect MOTHER RUSSIA!
We waited by the river on that evening to watch the spectacular firework show, but somehow darkness did not set upon us. It was the White Nights, it never really gets dark in summer, just as it never gets quite bright in winter!
I like revising at certain times, spots where I was once happy, I like to shape the present in the image of irretrievable past...... Fyodor Dostoyevsky, White Nights
Date of visit: May 2014 & July 2016
